The Bayou City Art Festival has been evolving since the seventies when it began as the Westheimer Arts Festival. Location and curb appeal are the most obvious changes.  For the last ten years, though, this evolution has focused on the art itself. Once this show seemed to cater to all mediums of southwest art , but this weekend it was tough to  find work that was conceived in the Rocky Mountain states. There was a smattering of photography, fantasy, and collage from Ca., that was it.

It makes perfect sense, if you are Gan ,and you are standing near the outside shower with an umbrella  while your granddaughter takes a shower in the rain..because she hates to shower inside at your vacation home.

It is reasonable to allow your grandchildren to play in the rain with the neighborhood children..who are dripping wet and riding their bikes through huge puddles at record speed.

It is okay to let your granddaughter body sand surf  on a huge cliff the over the Atlantic Ocean.

It is perfect acceptable to take your grands for ice cream before dinner..and if they decided they do not want dinner and want more ice cream…that is okay too..

It is fine to burn the pizza and explain to your grandchildren that it is fine to eat..because it is not completely black on the underside.  ….No big deal  !!

It is totally acceptable for the frig to be cleaned out twice a weeks…that means leftovers for dinner..and  your grands understand if they liked it the first time…then the second time might be even better..

It’s all OK now..and That’s why NOW is the best !

The me I think I am…the me I wish I was,  and the me I really am….. usually a battle.  Except in the summer, when the me I really am takes a leave of absence until school begins in the fall…That’s why these photos  ( especially the car plate) are such a big deal…..It says I am really and truly the me I wish I was….An Upstate New Yorker, who owns a cool dark gray 4×4 SUV….ready to hit the highway , the beach, or a steep hilly back road at a moments notice.  And this morning’s walk on my favorite Cape Cod beach…proved that it is  possible to live your dreams…for a while..  “So, you’re from New York”, a cute couple asked as they saw me get out of my car…I hesitated…and It was hard, but I said…”I wish…..but it’s a rental”.   Then a great conversation that only New York lovers can have followed.   I learned about  Upstate vacation spots, senic highways, and the best rainbow trout fishing streams within an hours train ride from NYC.  They didn’t ask why someone from the South had such an affection for the northeast…thankfully..because I would have had to go on and on about my best guess, which has never made sense to anyone…at times not even me..No, instead they just took my lust for the north as common place…Doesn’t everyone who lives other places….wish they lived here?  That’s what they thought.    Good thing they didn’t say it though..  I would have had to say, “I sure do”, only speaking for myself.  And that might have let them down a notch…

I am adding more beach picture here….Part of the Cape adventure is finding new beaches.  Yesterday we explored two new (to us) beautiful places on the Bay side and the children loved them..Today it is back to the ocean , where we will work on our tans and enjoy a cool 70 degree breeze..

More than a thousand words

I am becoming a slacker….I have no words that can do justice to everything my eyes see everyday…This really is the best place ever in June..The weather does not matter. Some how, sun, overcast, rain, hot or cool nature and histoy charm everyday.  The yellow rose of Texas????   Guess again…Yellow roses of Cape Cod..blooming a few days before the pale pink petals are everywhere. Beautiful grands…..the most awesome beach in the planet…a quaint fish house and the sky before it decides to bring us cloudy day….More to come

Cape Cod……Nuf Said !

A few pictures are worth a thousand words.  If after you view these you do not understand why I started longing for Cape Cod when I was a child who only knew its name and location….there is nothing I can add..sans temps in the 50s 60s and 70s in June..highs in the 80s in July and walking side by side with tons of others who are so happy to be here…for however long they are….More tomorrow…Enjoy these today and ask for more..if you desire.

Where do I start?

Guess I am a rusty blogger at this point…I first wrote this post last night…then it disappeared and today I have to start all over again.  Have NO idea what I wrote so it must not have been that important.

ANYWAY…I do not have to explain that the school year takes all my time..that must be obvious as I have not posted since January.  Finally school is out for the summer and I will have more time.  Currently we are on vacation in the best place Cape Cod..enjoying days in the 60s and nights in the 50s. So far we have accomplished the impossible- hours without rushing, days without anything pressing to accomplish and the ability to just have a blank mind for more than a minute or two.  It is amazing how getting away from home and all that is routine there changes everything.

Plans? Yes we do have them..but they are not long range..just what seems to be good at the time. I will write and continue working on my proposal package and move the narrative on a bit.  But here outside is always calling, because it is sunny and cool, something unheard of in our home state this time of year.

I will send pics from time to time and try to post observations about this wonderful part of the country..But mostly, I am just enjoying and giving thanks for the time to do so..
